At the age of 17, Bjørn-Erik realised that singing classical music was something of interest for him, even though he grew up distant from this performance art. He decided to join several choruses to learn how to use his voice. Early on in this journey he auditioned successfully to become a member of Bergen Philharmonic Chorus and remained there for several years under the direction of Håkon Matti Skrede. Here his talent was nurtured, and he had the opportunity to be involved in various musical productions in and around Bergen, including oratorios and opera productions. Through these projects he was introduced to baritone Simon Kirkbride, who become his mentor and vocal coach. At this point, Bjørn-Erik was an educated electrician, but with Simon’s encouragement he decided to embark upon a musical career. In 2011 Bjørn-Erik won a place to study at the Royal College of Music, London and was awarded a scholarship, the Martin Harris Award, which is awarded to singers who give outstanding auditions. Due to illness he had to resign from his studies after two years, but a recent operation restored him to health again. Bjørn-Erik is now able to pursue a career in music once more.
Bjørn-Erik currently works as a freelance singer, primarily working with the Norwegian Opera and Ballet. (DNOB) Recent collaborations include the ensembles Christiania Mannskor and Kilden Vokalensemble (KVE). In 2017 Bjørn-Erik appeared as a guest soloist together with renowned organist Iver Kleive in the Oslo Concert Hall (Oslo Konserthus), performing the two tenor arias from Mendelssohn's Elijah.
